Sometimes Transmission Failures Can Be Fixed Easily
Before you go out and purchase a new transmission for your car, self-check your vehicle for the signs of simple system failures that may have caused the transmission failure in the first place.
If your automatic transmission is not switching gears and stays in low gear, you can check the following things before you take it to a mechanic for a pricey repair.
This may sound so simple, but check the transmission fluid first. Lack of transmission fluid can cause your transmission to fail completely, but if you can spot it in early stage, just refilling the fluid can fix your transmission problems. If you are not sure how to do this, refer to your car owner's manual. If the transmission fluid is present and it has dark colors such as dark brown or black, just take your car to a mechanic. That usually means you have a major issue with transmission.
If you have a transmission modulator installed on your car, sometimes it can cause your car to stop running. Usually when a modulator goes out, you will feel firmer shifts than normal. Loose shifts could be a sign of a modulator failure as well.
In addition check for disconnected or broken cables.
When your car doesn't accelerate or stalls, stop driving it. Pull your car and call for help. If you keep on driving while the transmission is having a problem, you can worsen the problem when sometimes it can be fixed easily. Just keep that in mind.
